# coreav extract-audio

> Copy the AAC audio track of an MP4 or MOV file into an M4A file, without re-encoding.

`coreav extract-audio INPUT OUTPUT` copies the AAC audio track of an MP4 or MOV file into an M4A file. The audio is not decoded or re-encoded. The summary is [`coreav.extract-audio/1`](https://github.com/coreav-dev/coreav/blob/main/docs/schema/extract-audio-v1.md).

## Example

```sh theme={null}
coreav extract-audio input.mp4 audio.m4a
```

To decode audio to PCM instead, use [`coreav decode-audio`](/docs/commands/decode-audio).

## Options

```text theme={null}
Copy the AAC audio track of an MP4/MOV file into an M4A file, without re-encoding
Usage: coreav extract-audio [OPTIONS] <INPUT> <OUTPUT>
Arguments:
  <INPUT>   The file to read
  <OUTPUT>  Where to write the M4A file: a new file, or `-` for standard output
Options:
      --stream <STREAM>  The audio stream index (default: the first audio stream)
      --allow <CODEC>    Codecs to accept, comma separated, as for `coreav probe`
      --strict           Reject the whole file when a stream's codec is not allowed
      --force            Overwrite OUTPUT if it exists (a symbolic link is replaced, not written through; the new file keeps the old one's permissions)
  -h, --help             Print help
```
