# coreav extract-subtitles

> Write the text subtitles of an MP4 or MOV file as WebVTT.

`coreav extract-subtitles INPUT OUTPUT` writes the text subtitles of an MP4 or MOV file (mov\_text: 3GPP timed text or QuickTime text) as a WebVTT file. The summary is [`coreav.extract-subtitles/1`](https://github.com/coreav-dev/coreav/blob/main/docs/schema/extract-subtitles-v1.md).

## Example

```sh theme={null}
coreav extract-subtitles input.mp4 subtitles.vtt
```

## Options

```text theme={null}
Write the text subtitles (mov_text: 3GPP timed text or QuickTime text) of an MP4/MOV file as WebVTT
Usage: coreav extract-subtitles [OPTIONS] <INPUT> <OUTPUT>
Arguments:
  <INPUT>   The file to read
  <OUTPUT>  Where to write the WebVTT file: a new file, or `-` for standard output
Options:
      --stream <STREAM>  The subtitle stream index (default: the first text stream that is not a chapter track)
      --force            Overwrite OUTPUT if it exists (a symbolic link is replaced, not written through; the new file keeps the old one's permissions)
  -h, --help             Print help
```
